Pianist Leon Fleisher
Leon Fleisher is playing the piano with both hands again, after receiving therapy to deal with focal dystonia, a neurological condition affecting a muscle or muscles.

Leon Fleisher is back to playing the piano with both hands -- and he is due at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ next week for a concert and a master class.

He achieved worldwide acclaim in the 1950s and '60s, then lost the use of his right hand due to focal dystonia, a neurological condition affecting a muscle or muscles. He performed left-handed compositions until recently when new therapies allowed him to use use his right hand again.

His concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 29 in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

On March 1, the public is invited to observe as he comments on performances of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major (Emperor) by four student pianists, two student conductors and the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Symphony Orchestra, with D. Kern Holoman conducting. The class is set to start at 10 a.m. in Jackson Hall, and admission is free.
