Next week brings an opportunity to “Find Your International Experience,” without leaving the campus, during . It is a national event, promoted by the Department of State and the Department of Education, and Ƶ joins in annually in this celebration of international education and exchange.
The Ƶ “itinerary” this year takes in the Middle East and South Asia, and Latin America, and more specifically the countries of Chile, Iraq, Brazil, Oman, Tanzania, Kenya, Pakistan, Nepal, Argentina, Botswana, China and India, among others.
University Outreach and International Programs has compiled a , including the Middle Eastern South Asian Student and Community Organization Fair (Nov. 13), an international student fair (Nov. 16), the cultural extravaganza (Nov. 17) and Chinese Culture Day (Nov. 18).
Other programs include lectures and talks on a wide range of subjects, from “Peruvian Punk as a Global Mode of Under-Production” to “The U.S.-Chile Relationship and the Special Role of California.” The schedule also includes a panel discussion on international careers and a workshop on “Marketing Your Overseas Experience.”
Arts offerings include music from , and three films: Keys to My Home, about Iranians who have fled their country; Tropa de Elite II: The Enemy Within (Brazil, 2010) and Dersu Uzala (Soviet Union and Japan, 1975).
Some events precede the official week. They include an exhibition tonight (Nov. 9) of winning images from the Ƶ Study Abroad Photo Contest and a Sunday night (Nov. 11) performance by Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández, at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
