°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ faculty seeking funds, partnerships and collaborators for research projects that tackle global issues can now find new opportunities through two United Nations networks.

The university has joined the United Nations Academic Impact group, composed of institutions from more than 130 countries. The group seeks socially responsible solutions to global problems. °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ has also joined the U.S. chapter of the U.N. Sustainable Development Solutions Network, which unites research institutions to address the .

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ already has a history of working in the areas defined by these U.N. goals, which include eliminating poverty, creating affordable and clean energy, developing industry, innovation and infrastructure, conserving life below water and on land, and supporting access to education.

A recent faculty survey by Global Affairs shows that °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ researchers have projects that address all 17 U.N. goals, with most of the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ projects addressing such issues as hunger, health, water and climate action. Faculty research, teaching and service focused on issues outlined by the sustainable development goals stretch across more than 100 countries, often with implications for other countries, including the United States. For example, a project led by Professor and Director of Human Rights Studies Keith David Watenpaugh uses technology to help refugees reclaim their right to education.
