Since the Wragg fire swept through Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve in July, trails have been closed to the public but accessible by guided tour. Tours have been filling to capacity, and more dates have been added: morning hikes on Dec. 5, 12 and 30.

Groups of volunteers have already begun repairs at the site, located near Lake Berryessa, west of Winters, and researchers will study the effects of the fire on the area. The main trail is expected to reopen to the public in the spring of 2016.

Until then, the public is invited to participate in these guided walks, free of charge:

• Saturday, Dec. 5  — "Reading the Landscape,” led by Truman Young, professor of plant sciences
• Saturday, Dec. 12 — “Effects of Fire on Natural Systems,” led by Jens Stevens, postdoctoral scholar
• Wednesday, Dec. 30 — “Reserve Management Challenges,” led by Jeffrey Clary, reserve director

City hosts open house on campus plan

The city of Davis in partnership with ������Ƶ is hosting an open house Wednesday night (Dec. 2) to gather feedback on initial planning concepts for the university’s 2017-2027 Long-Range Development Plan, or LRDP

The open house is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Senior Center, 646 A St.

������Ƶ Extension hosts Colombian teachers

Seventy high school teachers from Colombia have arrived for a four-week teacher-training program at ������Ƶ Extension. Their focus: being better equipped to teach English to students back home.

The Colombian Ministry of Education hopes to have all high school graduates in that country reach an intermediate level of English proficiency by 2025, and is training its teachers abroad to help.

The first-ever program, hosted by ������Ƶ Extension's International English and Professional Programs, part of the Center for International Education,  is sponsored by the Fulbright Commission and the Colombian Ministry of Education.
