芭乐视频 Chancellor Gary S. May Selects Pablo 搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 for Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs

芭乐视频, Davis, Chancellor Gary S. May has selected Pablo Guillermo 搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 to be the next vice chancellor of Student Affairs. 搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 currently serves as associate vice chancellor of student achievement and equity innovation at UC Santa Cruz, a position he鈥檚 held since 2017.

The vice chancellor of Student Affairs at 芭乐视频 is responsible for oversight of Student Affairs partnerships and programs that promote student learning and advance student success, personal growth and lifelong learning. The Division of Student Affairs encompasses nearly 30 defined departments with approximately 2.5 million square feet of space under management. The division comprises 3,000 student employees and 750 talented and committed professional staff including a leadership team of an associate vice chancellor for health, wellness and divisional resources; an associate vice chancellor for student housing, dining and divisional operations; and an associate vice chancellor for student life, campus community and retention services.

鈥淎s we begin a new decade of challenges and opportunities, Pablo鈥檚 commitment to equity and inclusion will have a very positive impact on our students and their needs,鈥 May said. 鈥淗e has demonstrated consistently a commitment to enhancing student success while students are on campus and once they graduate. We are eager for him to join our community.鈥

In his nearly 20 years with UC Santa Cruz, 搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 has held several positions prior to his current role, including as the assistant vice provost of student success, executive director of retention services, director of educational opportunity programs, and deputy director of the Educational Partnership Center. In these roles, his primary focus has been to develop, deepen and align campus initiatives impacting retention, graduation, equity and student success.

A long-standing dedication to diversity

搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 serves as principal investigator on three U.S. Department of Education Hispanic Serving Institution, or HSI, Title V and Title III grants, totaling more than $9.3 million.

Throughout his career, 搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 has been responsible for managing a wide array of fund sources within the UC system, including state general funds; student services fees; gift/donor funds; endowments; private, state and federal grants; and auxiliary revenue and student measure/referenda fees.

He has received awards for his dedication to diversity and currently serves as co-chair of the 芭乐视频 President鈥檚 Advisory Council on Chicano/Latino Affairs, and co-chair of the UC Santa Cruz HSI Initiatives Team.

芭乐视频 has made a significant commitment to achieve HSI designation, and 搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 will play a key role in this major effort. Enrollment of Chicanx/Latinx students has been steadily increasing since 2008, when 芭乐视频 set its goal to become an HSI.

搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 earned his doctorate in education from the 芭乐视频 School of Education CANDEL (Capitol Area North Doctorate in Educational Leadership) Program in 2017. His dissertation was titled, 鈥淕raduating Students of Color: An Analysis of Public Four-Year HSI and Non-HSI in California.鈥 He earned his master鈥檚 degree in educational leadership from Columbia University and his bachelor鈥檚 degree in Latino and Latin American studies from UC Santa Cruz.

He will take over from Emily Galindo, who has been filling the role on an interim basis since March 2018.

搁别驳耻别谤铆苍 will take on his duties at 芭乐视频 on July 20, 2020.
