A whole lotta 'like' going on: Ƶ Facebook hits 50,000 fans

People like us, they really like us! We know this in part because of our , which this week attracted its 50,000th fan. It happened the night of Sept. 5.

Our fans include students and prospective students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and area businesses — whose online presence reflects the reality of Ƶ as an active, close-knit community.

They come to Facebook to share their views and to reminisce; for daily glimpses of campus life, from student activities and athletics to research findings; for news ; or to get lost in the campus’s beauty, as depicted in breathtaking by university photographers.

“We’re thrilled to have attracted our 50,000th Facebook fan,” said Barry Shiller, interim executive director of Strategic Communications. “This is much more than hitting a numerical threshold. It reflects growing interest among our students, parents, alumni and friends in being better engaged with their university. This demonstrates that Aggie Pride is real, and it’s growing.”

When you you might see a post from a student looking for a roommate or a nostalgic with some words of wisdom for incoming students about their future roommates.  

Ever wonder if the stories about getting lost in the Deathstar are true? Well, on our Facebook wall, you can about this architectural wonder — officially known as the Social Sciences and Humanities Building. The posting, by the way, has drawn more than 600 “likes.”

We recently shared the , who — thanks to the innovative science in our School of Veterinary Medicine — has a new jawbone. Whiskey’s story sparked a lot of enthusiasm and support, both for him, and our team of veterinarians and biomedical engineers.

Some people come to look for fun campus happenings, or for sports scores, or to .

And others come because, well, once you get that Aggie Pride, it’s with you for life.
