Football Season Kicks Off This Weekend

The ��Ƶ football team has been hard at work at its fall training camp for the past month, and will officially open the regular season with an away game at UC Berkeley Saturday (Aug. 31).

“We’ve continued to grow as a team and we are getting closer each day to finding out they type of team we are entering the season,” said head coach Tim Plough ’08, who is entering his first season as head coach.

Update 10 a.m. Nov. 2: The Staff Assembly tailgate has been moved to the Rec Pool’s covered picnic area, located across Hutchison Drive from the stadium, “due to the possibility of rain.” The closest parking is in Lot 30.

Kickoff Tee Retriever Cori Back for Another Season

��Ƶ’ “rocket dog” has achieved liftoff, retrieving the kickoff tee for another season of Aggie football.

Cori, a 3-year-old Labrador retriever owned by Veterinary Medicine Professor Lisa Tell ’87, DVM ’91, is building a relationship with a new kicker this season and continues to delight fans on and off the field.

Maggie the Aggie Rides Into Home Games

When the Aggie football team takes the field in ��Ƶ Health Stadium this season, the first student-athlete onto the field is one wearing bright blue and gold chaps. And she’s on horseback.

Kendal Scheiner is entering her second season as Maggie the Aggie, the student in flashy western wear who fires up the crowd by riding onto the field on horseback, waving an Aggie flag and calling to mind ��Ƶ’ longstanding veterinary medicine and agricultural connections.

“The adrenaline that hits in that moment is so amazing,” Scheiner said.

How to Watch ��Ƶ Football This Fall

There will be a lot to look for at this fall’s ��Ƶ football games, and a lot of ways to watch, including a variety of game-day experiences and streaming of home games.

First game this week

��Ƶ will start the season this week with a game Thursday (Aug. 31) at Texas A&M University - Commerce, followed by another away game Sept. 9 at Oregon State.

The Aggies’ first home game in ��Ƶ Health Stadium will be against Southern Utah on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Also, you might want to get there early to go through the verification process.

On the football field, Kooper Richardson uses all of his 300 pounds and 6-foot-6-inch frame to defend his ��Ƶ quarterback. On this Saturday after Valentine’s Day, he gently held the hand of a teen in a sparkling crimson gown as they waited in line to have their portrait taken.
