Vishik, associate professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, joins 18 other researchers nationwide who will each receive a five-year, $1.25 million grant to pursue new research goals and explore uncharted, innovative ideas.

The ��Ƶ, Davis, received $783 million in external research funding for fiscal year 2016-17, up $23 million from the previous year. ��Ƶ remained fourth overall among ��Ƶ campuses, which received a combined total of $6.08 billion from all external sponsors during fiscal year 2016-17, about 1 percent above the previous year.

“It’s clear that public agencies and private companies are depending on ��Ƶ’ innovative spirit and expertise to help solve some of the world’s biggest challenges,” said Chancellor Gary S. May.
