Two Studies Show Healthy Davis Together Prevented Infections, Hospitalizations and Deaths

Two newly published studies show the positive impact of Healthy Davis Together, a comprehensive pandemic response program, in Davis, California. The program, which provided access to regular COVID-19 testing, promoted vaccinations and other safety precautions, and supported local businesses, reduced test positivity rates, prevented illness and saved lives, the studies found.

Wastewater Monitoring for Public Health

Since September 2020, ��Ƶ, Davis, researchers have been monitoring wastewater on the ��Ƶ campus and in the city of Davis for COVID-19 through the Healthy Davis Together program. A new article published Feb. 8 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reviews their experiences and the advantages and limitations of wastewater testing as a public health tool in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Omicron Variant Detected in More Areas of Yolo County

The ��Ƶ Genome Center has detected and confirmed an additional 42 cases of the B.1.1.529 (omicron) variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in Yolo County, specifically in Davis, El Macero, West Sacramento and Woodland. The Genome Center had previously detected only two omicron cases, both in West Sacramento. The variant has also been detected in trace amounts in the city of Davis’ sewage through Healthy Davis Together’s wastewater monitoring initiative.

HDT to Rearrange Its Testing Operations

Healthy Davis Together, or HDT, announced it is closing its COVID-19 testing site at the Farm House at The Cannery in north Davis after this Friday (Nov. 5). Officials said the move will allow the ��Ƶ-city of Davis partnership to consolidate operations and boost symptomatic testing capacity at the HDT site at Research Park location in south Davis.
